J&A's Big Day

Match.com and a year later Ryan and I were happy to be asked to be in Jill and Aaron's wedding.  Jill and I met in 3rd grade and have been through it all ever since.  She was the one that always said 'I'll never find the one,' so I am truly thrilled for her that she met Aaron ... her perfect match (no pun intended!)

Their wedding was this past weekend and everything was very Jill ... a perfect mix of Antro & JCrew ... so beautiful.  Here is a video that one of my fellow bloggers, Daina from New York State of Mind made of their very special day ... enjoy!

Congrats Jill & Aaron ... wishing you a lifetime of blessings and happiness!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

It's SPRING!  And for the first time that means planting flowers!  If you know me, you know that I have nothing close to a green thumb.  However, Ryan and I are always looking for little updates to spruce up our house and this year I decided to embark on my first container planting!!  My mom found a great pot at  Costco and my successful planting went a little something like this ...

We picked out some cute plants/flowers from Bachman's.  TIP (that I was told by the Bachman's lady): plant your plants in odd numbers, 3 or 5 ... just like in any visual arts, I can tell I'm already a pro!
Next, we drilled a hole in the bottom of the pot and filled it with rock, about 3 inches ... easy enough thanks to Ryan's mad drillin' skills.
Then it was time for the soil and planning the placement of the plants.  Ooh this is getting so exciting, can't you sense the anticipation!!
And then ... the big moment to plant the plants!!  TA-DAH!!!
Paige of course loved to help :)
Now all I can do is cross my fingers and hope I don't kill them!!!
As fun as it was, flowers are freaking expensive!!  Ugh, seriously though, I'm really worried they are going to die ... did I water too much? too little?  are they getting enough sun?  too much sun?  Any flower maintenance suggestions are much appreciated.  Please don't die, please don't die!

S.B. - So, my camera finally crapped out on me.  Luckily, Triple Double is over and I can use the company camera which is a really nice Cannon EOS 20D but unfortunately the auto-focus is broken and I have to manually focus.  Once I get used to it I'll hopefully have some sweet pics up on the bloggity blog. Sorry for the blurry ones, but they are still better than my old camera!!

Mile High Birthday

On Thursday, April 5th (my birthday) Ryan and I departed to the Mile High city ... also known as Denver, Colorado.  In an earlier post you may remember that my best friend moved to Colorado.  Ryan and I were SO excited to visit Jaimie and Tim .... aaaaand big boy Burton, who was anxious to greet us as well!
Friday, Ryan and I met Tim and Jaimie for lunch at Brother's and then we headed to the Denver Zoo for a fun day with the cute animals (minus Burton).  Then we grilled out and went back to Brothers (where Tim manages) for a fun night out!
Saturday we went off to bum around in Boulder.  Lunch at the Walnut Brewery, walking around Pearl Street and a trip up the Mountain ... it was fun to show Ryan what he missed out on my last trip to CO!!
Saturday night we had a fabulous dinner at Earls and then went out in Lodo!
Sunday we headed off to Monument, Tim's hometown.  We spent the day hiking and fishing and came home and fried up some of the Brook Trout we caught!  Then we enjoyed our last night the best way possible ... with hot tubin' and cocktails.
We had such a fabulous time with our friends and can't wait for their wedding this summer.  Love you guys!!!  Thanks for your wonderful hospitality (even though the air mattress was flat)! Miss you tons!
Miss you too Burty Boy!

Marco ... Polo

A few weeks ago the fam spent our spring break vacation in sunny Marco Island, Florida.  Here are the highlights:

We stayed at the Marriott Crystal Shores
Enjoyed many sunny days by the pool and beach with a cocktail in hand (except for preggo Ali)
Ryan, my dad and I went to Hammond Field to watch a Twins spring training game.  Corona pounders might have been the best part :)
The week was filled with amazing meals (including dinner at Stans), gorgeous sunsets, mornings of water aerobics, afternoons of pool-side BINGO and nights of movies, late-night water slides, cocktails and sitting out on our balcony creeping on the neighbors through binocs (my dad always packs prepared).
Our favorite day went a little something like this ... renting a pontoon boat, seeing tons of dolphins, stopping at a remote beach and collect shells, then visiting the infamous The Snook Inn for a late lunch.  Later we finished off the amazing day with an evening at NachoMama's with the best nachos EVER (and of course some amazing margaritas!)
The day before we left was a little gloomy, but the rain didn't stop our adventurous side.  Ryan was insistent on seeing an Alligator before we left ... so that's exactly what we did!  We drove down to the Everglades and saw probably 30 on the way.  Then ... we went on a Airboat Tour that was SO much fun!!
Cheers to a great vacation!  And THANK YOU to my parents for the amazing trip!
Check out this super cool video I made.  (don't laugh!)  iMovie is awesome ... I can't wait to get better at it! Ha ha :) enjoy!

Spotted Cow and Spooner

Last weekend Ryan and I stayed in Spooner, WI to watch my dad race The Birkie (American Birkebeiner) ... a 50K cross country ski race, the largest in North America!  The race was in Hayward, WI but since it was such a large event the closest place we found to stay was the Ritz in Spooner, also know as the Country House Motel ... or as my dad said it best, "the motel on the right after the stop light."
The place was very clean and cozy, but looked like it was straight out of a 1970's horror flick.
When we got there on Friday we met up with my dad and ate dinner at a cute little restaurant called Pillers Poor Boys.  My dad got a good nights rest before the race and Ryan and I stayed up for some hot tub action, and then ran across the street for some wine and snacks.  Notice the Holiday Gas Station literally right across the street.  Ha, ha :)
And then enjoyed some OnDemand and Netflix on our laptop since we weren't able to settle for the awesome TV in the room.
Not sure what evoked us to have the bottle of wine so eagerly in the photos ... anyway, the next morning Ryan and I ate a wonderful breakfast at Nick's Family Restaurant, a cute little diner with the biggest pancakes I have ever seen!
Then, we were off to Hayward ... or so we though.  Just a short 45 minutes out of the way until we noticed we were headed in the wrong direction, at least we made it!  We feel very acclimated in northern wisconsin now :)  Hayward is a super cute town, the skiers crossed the finish line down main street which is lined with shops and bars.  My dad was in a late heat so Ryan and I frequented most of the bars since we got there in plenty of time before my dad was planning on crossing the finish line.
Our favorite hot spot was Anglers Bar with an awesome outdoor patio serving cold Spotted Cow and warm heat lamps.  We were in heaven!
I found this video that really captures the energy, excitement and fun of the day.  Don't feel like you need to watch the whole thing though .... kinda boring after the first 60 seconds
It was so much fun to see everyone cross the finish line!  Especially my dad of course :)
After he crossed we celebrated with some more brews at the Angry Minnow.  The town erupted and was crawling with people and bars were packed and there were 2 hour long waits for food.  So we headed back to good ol' Spooner to Tony's Riverside Bar for some great nachos and burgers.   My dad was pooped after the long 4 hour 15 minute race (great time!) and headed to bed early again which gave Ryan and I the option of an early evening or a late night adventure ... we chose the later.  We decided on wine, beer, cards and YouTube.  No joke.  In doing so we stumbled upon one of the most amazing videos ever that I had to share.  I love the song 'Somebody That I Used to Know' by Gotye, but love it even more by Walk Off The Earth!!
After so many YouTube vids, we got bored and started playing cards and I got inspired and shot this awesome video ... it's my 'scary movie'
video
Sadly, after 2 rounds of speed, Ryan and I realized he bought some jacked-up cards ...
Needless to say our gaming was over.  So it was back to OnDemand on the lap top for some season catch-up of The Office and Parks & Rec.

Such a wonderful weekend with the two favorite men in my life :)

S.B. (side blog ... for those who have forgotten!):
Here are two more great videos we discovered of songs we love.
Ryan and I both share a great love for music, I grew up playing the piano and I'm proud to say I was in band class all through high school playing the saxophone!  Ha ha, Ryan was 'The King' in his school's performance of Joseph and will make you watch the video if you bring it up.  We love going to concerts and to see live music together.  Music has always been something special we share.

I always have wanted a piano in our house but never thought the day would come as soon as it did.  When we got home on Sunday, Ryan noticed an estate sale across the street so we headed over to check it out.  Right in the entry way there was a gorgeous old 1907 P.A. Schmitt piano.  The women noticed me eyeing it up and offered $200, and by the time we left she was willing to sell it to us for under $100, "everything must go, and it needs a good home," she said.  We came home and started chatted about it, and realized an opportunity like this doesn't come around often.  We went back and offered $50 thinking she would want to bargain with us and instead she replied, "you just bought yourself a piano" I couldn't believe it!  With slight tears in her eyes she said, "it needs a good home and you're the perfect person to have it."  Awwww, so sweet.  It needs a good tuning, but is in amazing shape.  We are so thrilled to be able to share the love of music together with our new (old) piano!
